MASILAMANI NATHAR TEMPLE

 

On the sea front, fighting a losing battle against the sea is the last monument in this village,Masilamani Nathar temple, built in 1305 by Mahaverma Kulasekara Pandiyan.
The temple is partly eroded by the advancing sea. Some parts of the temple are still
intact and locals still use the temple. Once a busy and important trade centre, this forgotten village of Tranquebar intrigues us with its history and captivates us with its beauty.

 

VAITHEESWARAN KOVIL

 

Vaitheeswaran, Thaiyal Nayaki, Muthukumaraswamy (Shiva, Parvathi, Suhramanya Swamy)An ancient temple dedicated to Shiva - as Vaitheeswaran literally meaning the divine provider of cures. Adorned with imposing towers, Mandapams and pillars, this well visited shrine has been sung by the Saivite Saint Poets. It is said that Angarakan - Mars, Kartikeya, Jatayu and the Rig Veda worshipped Shiva here. This shrine is also referred
to as an Angarakasthalam.



 

VELANKANNI

Velankanni Church is one of, the most visited pilgrim centers in India. It is a town situated on the shores of Bay of Bengal. This renowned shrine Basilica of our Lady of health draws pilgrims from all over the world. Not only Christians hut also the people of other relegions come to this Church to pray at the shrine of ‘Our lady of health’. This Roman Catholic Church has an extended Basilica, which has two floors where one can find the statue of Jesus Christ. There is also a shrine of “our lady of sorrow” wherein the sorrowing Mother is depicted carrying infant Jesus in her hand.

 
 

SINGARAVELAR TEMPLE,SIKKAL

A beautiful Muragan Temple dedicated to Lord Singaravelan is housed in a large complex. The pillars of this temple are adorned with intricate and exquisite carvings. The beautiful paintings of a bygone era arc amazing in colour and portrayal. Beside this temple has the shrine of Siva, Vishnu and Hanuman it is a rare combination, indeed that it is believed. Worship in this temple removes all the hurdles of the devotees.
